PLEIADES Platform

Implemented at CEA Cadarache, the PLEIADES multi-scale simulation platform, co-developed by the Fuel Research Department (DEC) and EDF R&D, with support from AREVA, allows the simulation of the behavior of fuel and cladding in reactor environments, both in normal operating conditions and accident scenarios.

Each fuel technology results in a dedicated application. All of these applications share some of the same components of the fuel and cladding behavior laws and models, of the numerical resolution methods and of the pre- and post-processing tools. They also share the same software architecture. Some applications can be coupled with databases. Focus is placed on validating applications that integrate the database reference system into the platform. The conditions investigated are those characterizing the whole fuel life cycle (behavior in the reactor, backend of the fuel cycle with transport and waste storage configuration). To meet the intensive computing requirements and to build on personal work stations, the PLEIADES platform has been integrated into the CEA Cadarache centralized computing resources and the CCRT of CEA (Computing Cnter for Research and Technology).

The following simulation tools have been developed by the CEA and implemented in the PLEIADES platform:

˜ ALCYONE et CYRANO, PWR (Pressurised Water Reactor) ;

˜ MAIA, MTR (Materials Test Reactor) ;

˜ ATLAS, HTR (High Temperature Reactor) ;

˜ CELAENO, GFR (Gas-cooled Fast Reactor) ;

˜ GERMINAL V2, SFR (Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor) ;

˜ REV (Representative Elementary Volume), a module dedicated to the calculation of the fuel behavior under irradiation using properties at the microstructural scale.
