SAMANTA Platform (Saclay's Additive MANufacturing & surface TreAtment)

The SAMANTA platform (Saclay’s Additive MANufacturing & surface TreAtment platform) within the Physical-Chemistry Department of the Nuclear Energy Division (DEN) is equipped with several advanced processing methods, such as additive manufacturing and high-energy physical vapour deposition techniques.

The platform’s mission is to develop processing techniques that can facilitate the development of innovative solutions for the many technical challenges that face the CEA’s different programs.

The main devices installed in the platform are the following:

  • Three selective laser melting (SLM) machines: SLM Solutions 280HL, Trumpf TruPrint 1000 & an experimental bench;
  • One electron beam melting machine (EBM): ARCAM A2;
  • One direct metal deposition machine (DMD): OPTOMEC MR-7;
  • Two physical vapour deposition / plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition machines (PVD / PE-CVD) powered by HiPIMS (High-Power Impulsed Magnetron Sputtering) generators and cathodic arc sources;
  • Different rapid prototyping machines: stereolithography (STL) and fused deposition modeling (FDM).
